North Region Summer Series 2008 - Bradford Round 1

Welcome to the First Round of the North Region Summer Series 2008. 

The most eagerly anticipated Racing Series in modern Cycling.  

Its perhaps a little ironic considering that this is Old School BMX Racing.  Its even more
ironic because the conditions could hardly be classed as summer.   To say the conditions were
wintery is an understatement.  The climate was akin to conditions expected in a polar tundra.

The day started brightly enough but was bitterly cold.   The battle hardened Old Schoolers
arrived with joyful glee on their faces and steel in their hearts.  Ready for the day's trials 
and tribulations.

The Riders List for todays round were 94 Performer, Ron Burgundy, OrgasmDonor, Dan Dare, Beard1973,
Hunterdubber, R Al, Dibly ,MotomagII, Moley, Sanmarcopizza, Priv, Big G, Oberonspacefruit, HEYWOODBMX,
Phil Critchlow, Smithy and Emma the only woman brave enough to compete.

18 riders born with the will and desire to compete at the highest level.

94 Peformer, imperial and elegant as always took the top honours.  Like a springing gazelle over the 
jumps and powerful like a charging silverback gorilla down the straight.  He was a man on a mission.
Impossible?  Not for him.  He took it easily in his lanky stride.

Ron Burgandy was also on sensational form.  After such a wonderful performance I would have to say he's
kind of a big deal!

Trick of the day went to Hunterdubber who perfected his bar flip to faceplant on the 1st OS Gate - Moto 1.
He slipped his chain at the end of the start lane and sailed graciously over the bars.  Luckily he landed on 
his head which is the softest part of his body and he was also aided with a helmet, so he came to no harm.  
Some nice scuffs to his helmet to show his grand children in later years when he's spinning yarns of his 
exciting life in BMX Racing folklore.  

That wasn't Hunterdubber's only wipeout that day.  In the 'B' Semi-Final he led at the first corner and went 
into a  commanding lead. When coming to the last corner you could see only him as the victor. But the ever 
unpredictable racer decided to throw away victory when he slipped a pedal halfway through corner.  Lookily
a full-face helmet hid his blushes!!!!

Some great performances throughout the motos by all the riders.  

There was some bad weather but some great racing today.  Hopefully this is the sign of things to come.

Well this was my first ever BMX Race.  Did I enjoy it?  Oh yes, I certainly did.  Although I didn't enjoy 
falling at the end of the first straight in my very first moto.  Was I hurt?  No but my pride took a beating.
My favorite memory of the day was the tussle with Oberonspacefruit and MotomagII in the Third Moto.
Theres nothing like the thrill that you get when you pass another rider on a corner.  Which is what I did
to Oberonspacefruit on the last corner. Unfortunately MotomagII blocked my path as I was about to pass him 
and after losing all my momentum and due to the fact I was using an insanely high gearing of 47/16. I was 
unable to keep my place and Oberonspacefruit regained his position.

Will I race again?  You betcha!!.   The adrenaline pumping through my clotted arteries has brought this hobby
from pastime to a life enhancing adventure full of travel and excitement.   If you ever get the chance to race.
I suggest you do.  Whatever you skill level and abilities, the people you meet, the tracks to overcome and the
thrill of the ride.  It's an experience that will stay with you and will enhance your dreary existance.
